LOVE ME LIKE THIS

This is a monster that gave birth to another monster. Real To Reel's jam was edited by Floating Points to create one of the best tracks of 2009. This jam is nothing but a bomb. Recorded and released in 1983, it has that distinctive boogie sound from the era ... just perfect ...

MEET ME AT THE GOGO

I love Gogo music ... the combined elements of funk, percussion and dope synths always does it on the floor as long as the jam is good. It is fair to say that all the releases of the genre are quality but, when it is, it tears the floor down without a doubt.
This jam by Hot Cold Sweat was released in 1982 and produced by the allmighty kings of Gogo, Trouble Funk. It has everything needed for a good record ... an infamous groove, dope production, great sound.
Tested and approved at Strictly Niceness.

Enjoy.

AL NAAFYISH (THE SOUL)

Back in the mid 80's, movies like "Beat Street" or "Break Street" would definetly transform me into what I am today. A hip hop fanatic. I remember asking this guy called Stéphane (who had a pair of turntables) to record a tape for me with the hip hop and breakdance from that time, and he did. I still have that tape somewhere, it was my first ever mixtape. Steph has to be thanked because I never had the chance to tell him how much that tape had a crazy effect on me. Thanks, man ... a lot !
Anyway, this track, that was on that precise tape, is a breakdance classic that still works to this day. I broke my neck 251 times trying to headspin while it was in the tape deck as we would try to catch the phases we were seeing in "Beat Street". This is an "historical" electro track. A classic. On the same level as "Looking for the perfect beat" by Bambaataa or "Time Space Transmat" by Model 500.

Enjoy.

BAMA LOVE SOUL PRESENT : A FUNKY SITUATION (THE REMIXES)

Please allow me to relay this dope post (and release) by the good people at Bama Love Soul. Bama stands for Alabama. They run a blog I've been following for a minute now, they've got dope free dl's, nice interviews; all in all, a dope blog with fantastic content. Big up to Rahdu & Friends.

Greetings everyone, it is finally here, our first project of the NEW YEAR! We proudly present to you a project that showcases many interpretations of songs from Wilson Pickett’s 1978 a funky situation album.
Wilson Pickett, an icon and Alabama native, has been so influential to modern music but with the growing amount of microwave talent, it has become so easy to forget the pioneers. With the assistance of producers and emcees from across the globe, we’ve created a compilation that will place Wilson Pickett on the tip of your tongue and encourage you to research the man that even James Brown gives up the stage to.
We ask that you not only download and listen, but also pass on and share this compilation to others, not only because we’re immensely proud of it, but because our musical history is in jeopardy and our youth have no idea who came before Usher.
Enough of waxing poetic! For all my finnicky downloaders, we’ve included several download options of 320 bitrate mp3s and even a one track download for my podcasters. Enjoy!

1. FreshNerd – TheNight
2. Byron the Aquarius – The Wicked
3. Illastrate; Amdex; Boog Brown – It’s Fine
4. DJ Rahdu; Thed Weller – I’m Ready
5. SHEN 07 – Dancewitme
6. J Finesse – Call It A Day
7. Tall Black Guy – She Too Nice
8. Sawandi – Groovin’ (Sawandi Rework)
9. King Boom – Disco Groovin’
10. Junior Star – Dance With Me (Junior Star Rework Part One)
11. Average Thought – So Loose
12. SoFoReal – Time to Let the Sun Shine (SoFoReal Remix)
13. SHEN 07 – Outro
14. Tall Black Guy; Shaheed – Blastmatazz (Bonus)

STRICTLY NICENESS LIVE MIX

Photo : Bernard Rosenberg

We recorded the last edition of Strictly Niceness, which took place at La Bodega (as usual) on january 8th. It was a resident night. Bernard Dobbeleer and I had great fun, there was a crazy vibe. People left with a smile on their face and so did we ...
Here is the mix we did, it's almost complete ... it goes from Chuck Brown & The Soul Searchers to Ramadanman, from Masters At Work to Teena Marie (RIP); from The Budos Band to Snoop Dogg, ... and back.

4 hours and 45 minutes in 2 parts. Raw, uncut, and no overdubs of course.

Thanks to James Brenkley aka Decknologist for splitting this.

Enjoy.

YOU GOT SOUL

As I was in London in september, I obviously had to tear down some recordstores. I went to Rough Trade, to Honest Jon's, People' Sound and more ... They all offered me flowers went I had to leave, haha ... I found this dope rocksteady jam in the basement at Rough trade. Johnny Nash hails from Houston (Texas) and was the first non-jamaican singer to ever record in Kingston. He even recorded and produced a then struggling local act called The Wailers. This jam went in the UK Chart at number 6. I particularily enjoy the vocal harmonies in the chorus.

Enjoy.

YOUNGBLOOD (LIVING IN THE STREETS)

War is one of my favourite bands ever ... I was working in a record store at the time, and my boss offered me the album "The world is a ghetto". What a blast. I just discovered the extraordinary musicianship, the infamous groove, the beautiful vocal harmonies, the mix between jazz, funk, soul, latin influences, etc ...

"Youngblood / Living in the streets" in the title track of the album called the same name ... it's the original soundtrack for a movie ...

LANSANA'S PRIESTRESS

Out of the classic and ever wonderful "Street Lady" by Donald Byrd, "Lansana's Priestress" is a dope jazz/soul/funk jam with lush horns and reeds arrangement. Recorded in 1973 and produced by the Mizell Brothers at the peak of their art of producing, the personnel listed on the liner notes is kind of an all star jazz funk musicians.

WIND ME UP

As somebody said lately, I'd better be called Kwak the Ripper, as I very regularily rip records to feed my beast called Serato. This record is quite something. A dope boogie jam recorded in 1980 with a jazzy twist that adds a little je ne sais quoi ... Rj's Latest Arrival hails from the 313rd Detroit City. Yes, the Motor Town.

NEFERTITI

As I was busy ripping a full box of 45's (not finished yet and by far, so many goodies in there) that belong to TLP / Troubleman, I stumbled upon this massive afrofunk jam by a band called Wisdom ... Infectious keys, dope bass line, great conga work and guitar licks ... Nefertiti is the instrumental version of a track called "What cha gonna du about you" and is much nicer to my opinion than the vocal version ... kinda rare too according to the Troubleman himself ...

LOVERGIRL (SYBERIZED)

You may have heard that Teena Marie, the Ivory Soul Queen, passed away on december 26th at the age of 54.

Mark deClive Low and Sy Smith wanted to pay their homage to the late singer of so many disco boogie classics (think "Square Biz", "Behind the groove", "Sucker for your love", and more). They then recorded, reimagined as McDL would say the song called "Lovergirl". It's a beautiful, yet modern take on a beautiful song.
Mark told us to spread the word, so there you go ... Have a treat, it's on the house ...

LONG HOT SEXY NIGHTS

As i was ripping some records by the great Kenny Dixon Junior, I thought I'd share this fantastic jam from 1995 and featuring the one and only Norma Jean Bell ... it's sweaty, funky to the bones, hot daaamn sexy ... to cut a long story short, it's the hell of a jam ...

Enjoy !
